so many good singers that aren't famous
the music business (like most big business) is largely crooked
One of my favorite Hunter S. Thompson quotes (although it is frequently attributed to him, there is some dispute as to whether or not it is axually his, but no matter) is this:
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
Until next time...

its better that they arent famous and get greedy!
"There's a sucker born every minute"- which is why promotion can often make a success out of an even modest talent, but a more substantial talent often makes less money because he or she is resistant to corporate branding and merchandising, and stays true to their vision. This is why indie music is usually better than what gets played on the radio-one is art the other is "product".

Knowing how to promote yourself is a key factor.

very true!!!! not every one can get discovered
Alot of it is luck. Also many artists today aren't bad... though they normally don't write all their songs which is strange in my mind.
