my vote is actually a tie between QOTSA or Pearl Jam. what do you all think?
QOTSA is good, Mars Volta is great, but my fave right now is Braintree. Awesome band!
Mars Volta is great! And you are right about Braintree. They are good too.

For me Nirvana, Black Sabbath and Metallica are still some of the best rock band.

state to state from los angeles. virtually unknown but these boys (and girl) are going to make waves soon.
Ties between Breaking Benjamin, Pink Floyd and Matchbox Twenty for me.
Rush and Queen are still my favorite ones.

Pearl Jam would be good if they quit while they were ahead. With Backspacer, I pretty much labled them sell outs.
I would have to say Alice in Chains because they can still put out the music that they put out back in the grunge era. Black Gives Way To Blue is definatly in my top 3 albums from them. Sure Layne is gone but I don't think he added much beside his voice which was easily covered by DuVal. Jerry wrote all the lyrics and he was just a frontman. But also why they are still great is the diversity in rock. You want accustic you got the whole Jar Of Flies album. Metal's got Them Bones or A Looking In Veiw. Hard Rock's got Man In The Box, Again or Last Of My Kind. Alternative is covered by Rooster and Would?.
But I'm partial to "downer" rock.
