Britney's appeal in her earliest days was her cuteness, (seeming) wholesomeness and the songwriting and production the record company bought for her. She doesn't write and she barely sings, but she looked good on the album cover and dancing around in skimpy outfits. Gaga isn't as cute, though she does show off her attractive figure in many of her outfits too. She can write kind of (catchy to the point of annoying, imo) and sings fairly well, but her appeal is her outrageous costuming and staging. As far as singing ability, Adele is the real deal, and Kelly Clarkson is also fantastic. Ingrid Michaelson, Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles are all superior to Brit, Gaga, Katy or Madonna as singers and songwriters.
