How refreshing to see such a well thought out cohesive and rational argument.

I am an atheist for a number of reasons, I was not brought up with religion rammed down my throat. As I have stated on may occasions, there is not one shred of evidence to support the existence of either a God or Gods. Some people seem to find the concept of evidence a difficult one, they either quote or use the bible as evidence, it is not, it is simply a book of stories.
Perhaps the question should have been, why does anyone believe in God?

Why does anyone believe in god- I believe in god because it allows me to follow a set of rules that allow me to act in a "proper" way. Imagine if there was no religion. What would the world be? Chaos? Theft? Murders? Religion in general has stopped a lot of this. Obviously some religions are an exception and cause more harm then they help, however i dont think the bible is one of those.

Evidence- In the bible it says that there need not be evidence, and you should believe uncoditionally. I personally do not believe in this part of the bible, I think that was made up. Im sure there is evidence, I just dont think we have found it. I dont think god would want us to just believe to simply believe, I think as we advance scientifically we will find evidence supporting the evidence of god, and also im sure God doesnt care if we find evidence.

Why do we need a God to act in a moral manner? There is a saying, a good man will do good things, an evil man will do evil things, for a good man to do evil things, that takes religion. Just take a look at the horrors that have been committed in the name of a God, the inquisition is a good place to start, I would suggest your moral goodness that is derived from a God is one of fear, fear of being sent to another place other than heaven.
I believe the opposite, the more we learn about the universe and it's workings, the less space there is for a God.

    Default ehhh

i dont like religion. its also the cause of alot of wars. god exists. he loves you and wants you to love him. the bible IS historically correct. one example is the flood. look into every indigenous part of every continent in the world, you will find history of some great flood in their history. it also would be good to note that the bible is not in chronological order. Genesis was not the first book written, Job was. the two prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah were alive at the same time and both documented babylon's capture of israel.

Whoo, the flood, lets just look at this logically, the flood, the old testament was written approximately 1450bc to 470bc, so just for arguments sake lets use about 4000 years ago as a coverall. The earth is covered by tectonic plates which move around on the mantle, in human terms they move very slowly, only a few cm's a year. The highest point on the earth 4000 years ago would still have been Everest, some 8848 metres high, the lowest point the Marianas trench at current estimates is 10,971 metres below sea level. Lets assume that sea levels are basically the same now as they were then, this means that the level of water would have had to have risen 8848 metres to cover the entire earth. Could you explain where all the water needed for this to have happened came from? And where is it now? The oceans and seas are salt water, this would have combined with the fresh water found on land, the resulting waters would still have had a very high salt content, the salinated water once receded would have left the land infertile for decades if not more, hardly conducive to the rebirth of the species of life that were on the ark, oh yes, the ark. There are literally billions of species of life on the earth, freshwater life would have had to have been placed on the ark as well. Just how large was this ark? And please remember the only material available for ship building then was wood, even the largest super tanker today would not have been large enough to carry all the life and supplies needed to start again once this flood had receded.
Yes you will find evidence of water everywhere on earth, just an example Arizona was once a seabed, fossilised crustaceans have been found on mountain sides, this is simply due to the movement of the earth's crust.
Please before you make sweeping claims for the fantasy stories contained in the bible try and look at them logically first.
