Progressive Majority and Grassroots the Movie are excited to announce the next phase of our groundbreaking partnership. On October 1st, we’re re-launching The Nation Sings.

With The Nation Sings, we’re doing our part to encourage and support those dedicated people who will write and perform the next generation of inspiring protest songs.
The labor fights in Wisconsin, the upcoming election, and grassroots efforts across the country have proven that we need to unite our voices to make progress.
This movement is about you – everyday Americans who want to say your piece. We’re putting the microphone back in your hands, so you can make the music that will inspire progress.

Starting on October 1st, 2011, upload an audio file or a video of your original protest song, and the lyrics that accompany it.

Film yourself performing it, or you can have a friend sing it for you. Make it in whatever style you want: From folksy to hip-hop, pop to spoken word, instrumental to dub... We want to hear it all. Just make it real, make it authentic, and inspire people to get involved in a cause that you feel passionately about.

We will put all uploads in front of a panel of music industry experts, as well as director Stephen Gyllenhaal (‘Grassroots’) and the good folks at Progressive Majority. Together, this jury will select twelve songs whose songwriters and performers will then be given a chance at a professional recording, and the full benefit of our combined promotional powers.


It’s your chance to show the world what you care about. ‘The Nation Sings’ launches on October 1st at 1PM (EST), and ends on December 1st at 11PM (EST).
