I hope this is the appropriate forum.
I enjoy listening to movie score albums (some of my friends think this is weird), sometimes I even don't like the movie but like the scoring. But I don't really have any favorite in this genre (if you can call it genre). I really like Hans Zimmer's works, particularly Inception soundtrack album.
Ennio Morricone (The Mission and Cinema Paradiso), Nino Rota (La Strada), Preisner (Bleu), Williams (Seven Years in Tibet) and Glass (Truman Show) are a few of my faves.
I don't know if I have a favorite, but I do tend to notice Alan Silvestri's name a LOT in films these days...
How did I forget Forrest Gump's Silvestri-the "Feather Theme" is instantly recognizable and beautiful.
I hate that movie. It reminds me that I'm human, and I cry every time I see him standing under that tree, talking to Jenny's grave.
One of my favourite soundtracks is the one heard in "the last emperor" from director Bertolucci, composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto (Furyo). This music is a perfect synthesis between Western orchestration and asian music and sounds brilliant to me.
The way to mix chinese instrument into a classical symphonic orchestra is really amazing.
Such a talent !![]()
That's a good one, too. Some interesting additions to the film score/soundtrack genre. Check out the (almost) all piano score for It's My Party (no relation to the '60s pop song of the same name), by Basil Poledouris. A new movie called The Descendants has an all Hawaiian Music soundtrack which is beautiful. I really like the Glory, Last of the Mohicans and Gettysburg soundtracks, too-though maybe part of that is just my interest in historical American movies.

I think I would go with Ennio, Hans, and John Williams. Those guys are living legends for sure.
I also love listening to soundtracks but I'm a composer, therefore I guess my behavior is biased.
And even I buy a soundtrack before watching its linked movie and sometimes it gives me the desire to see the movie whereas the movie trailer didn't convince me..
Cry of the Valkeries?
