So i am someone who usually listens to electronica and abstract hip hop, but a while back i was recommended to check out a song by the new artist/band AWOLNATION called Sail. (Many youtube replays later) I was at a store and decided to buy their new album "Megalithic Symphony" and i must say i truly haven't liked an album like i do this one in a very long time it is definitely worth checking out or investing into. I would post a link but for whatever reason i can't do that yet. So go check them out on youtube.
YES!!!
I would say that "Sail" is even one of the weaker tracks on the album, but it is definitely one of the best debut albums of 2011. I'll have more to say about them later, I'm sure...
Until next time...

I will have to check it out!!!
You should, definitely. It's an amazing fusion of dance/synth pop/rock/punk. If the site would let me post links (it says I can after three posts, but it's still not letting me) I would post a link to their website where you can stream the entire album for free. Since I can't link it, just go to awolnationmusic dot com and click on "Music" at the top of the screen to get to the stream page.
The album (Megalithic Symphony) is also available as an mp3 download from amazon for $5.99. I don't know what it costs on iTunes, but if you buy it there, you get a different bonus track than you do on amazon--and I like the amazon bonus track better ("Shoestrings").
You have to kind of ignore the first two tracks--"Megalithic Symphony" (a largely instrumental overture that doesn't really add much to the album) and "Some Sort of Creature" (a short spoken word interlude that is utterly useless other than to kill whatever momentum was generated by the first track)--before the album really takes off, but then it does for sure, as the next six tracks are as strong as anything else released in 2011.
I might also note that "All I Need" (track 13) was used in a Showtime self-advertisement toward the end of 2011, and it was also the background music during one segment of this season's "American Idol" auditions--so this isn't just one person's opinion, they are getting attention from the industry as well.
Now dang it, when can I post links?
Until next time...

These guys are pretty awesome... they have a very diverse sound that makes it difficult to label them in any kind of specific genre. I like that a lot.
Absolutely agreed. They show a lot of that elusive creativity that used to mark the most successful artists, but is often merely the kiss of death (commercially) these days. There is really a lot going on in each of their individual songs, and over the course of their album. For it to be the debut album by a new band is pretty amazing, even though some of the members have previous experience.
(Singer Aaron Bruno has three previous bands, Under the Influence of Giants, Hometown Hero, and Insurgence. Guitarist Christopher Thorn played with the 90s one-hit wonders Blind Melon.)
I'm really looking forward to another release.
Until next time...
