Sarah McLachlan is great, you could do a lot worse than her as an example to follow. Do you listen to Joni Mitchell? She's another great artist you might enjoy-I particularly appreciate her first few albums (up to, and including "Court and Spark", but "Blue" or "Clouds" might be good first choices-for albums). On youtube check out "Both Sides Now", "Woodstock" or "Chelsea Morning"--You might want to listen specifically to earlier performances (up till the early '70s), when her voice was more like yours-she still writes and sings, but her voice now is much lower and not as much like your voice anymore.
